Katana swords and more
Paul Chen himself became involved in swordmaking about the same time he started his own collection, when he was about eight years old. After making knives for a few years, he moved on to a bigger challenge: the sword. He realized that good, quality swords were way out of his price range, while inexpensive models were cheap and of poor quality. It just made sense to him that he develop his own. Studying antique pieces left to him by his grandfather, he was inspired to create his own unique designs, trying to balance historical aesthetic accuracy with blade durability, weight and size. For example, Chen often reproduces katana swords with tangs stronger than the original swords' tangs, simply because he wants his replica to hold up to the heavy use some collectors may put it to.
